Bloomberg reported that the number of jobs created in the solar energy business grew 12 times faster than overall job creation in the US and surpassed those in the oil & gas sector for the first time last year.
About 8.1 million people worldwide had jobs in the solar energy sector in 2015, up from 7.7 million in 2014, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency [Irena] based in Abu Dhabi.
According to Irena, the solar energy companies are adding workers at record rates to install solar panels while oil and gas producers, by contrast, have slashed 351,410 jobs worldwide since prices began to slide in the middle of 2014.
Apparently, in China, there are more people working in Renewables sector than in O&G.
It is interesting to note however that Financial Times reported that “green” energy jobs are faltering in EU, but growing exponentially in big Asian markets of India and China.
